Special-Purpose Nickel Alloys

چکیده
NICKEL-BASE ALLOYS have a number of unique properties, or combinations of properties, that allow them to be used in a variety of specialized applications. For example, the high resistivity (resistance to flow of electricity) and heat resistance of nickel-chromium alloys lead to their use as electric resistance heating elements. The soft magnetic properties of nickel-iron alloys are employed in electronic devices and for electromagnetic shielding of computers and communication equipment. Ironnickel alloys have low expansion characteristics as a result of a balance between thermal expansion and magnetostrictive changes with temperature. Originally used as clock pendulums, these alloys are now widely employed as lead frames in packaging electronic chips and as the shadow-masks in color television tubes. On a larger scale, they provide one solution to coping with the thermal expansion requirements of storage and transportation tanks for the growing liquid natural gas industry. Other properties of interest that expand the markets and applications of nickel and nickel alloys include those to follow:

The Role of Niobium in Wrought Precipitation-hardened Nickel-base Alloys
Niobium is recognized as an important alloying element in a number of wrought precipitation-hardened nickel-base alloys. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the role that niobium plays in these alloys and describe the properties that are achieved as a result of its inclusion in wrought superalloys. In addition to the general alloying characteristics of niobium as described in the technic...
متن کاملSubstitution of platinum by laser-generated nickel-alloy nanoparticles for heterogeneous catalysis
Platinum is a scarce and expensive metal that is mostly used as a catalytic active material for energy converting devices like fuel cells. The more cost-effective metal nickel and its alloys are an interesting alternative to platinum. For this purpose, we fabricated ligand-free and purely electrostatically stabilized nickel-molybdenum nanoparticles by laser ablation in liquid and characterized ...
متن کاملProperties of experimental copper-aluminium-nickel alloys for dental post-and-core applications
PURPOSE This study aimed to develop a copper-aluminium-nickel alloy which has properties comparable to that of dental alloys used for dental post and core applications with the reasonable cost. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen groups of experimental copper alloys with variants of 3, 6, 9, 12 wt% Al and 0, 2, 4, 6 wt% Ni were prepared and casted. Their properties were tested and evaluated. The da...
متن کاملLaser Ablation (LA)-ICP-MS for Production Control of Nickel Alloys Application
Nickel alloys are used extensively across a wide range of industries, often in components which are required to perform critical functions under arduous operating conditions. As a result, the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of such alloys must be well understood and the levels of trace metal contaminants, which may have a profound effect on these properties, must be strictly contr...
متن کاملPseudoelasticity and thermoelasticity of nickel-titanium alloys: a clinically oriented review. Part II: Deactivation forces.
The purpose of this review was to organize a systematic reference to help orthodontists evaluate commonly used orthodontic nickel-titanium alloys. Part I of the article reviewed the data available in the literature regarding the temperature transitional ranges of the alloys. The thermomechanical behavior of these compounds is, in fact, strictly dependent upon the correlation between the tempera...
